About Testera

What is Testera?
Testera is free practice that talks back. You hold spoken conversations with AI voice tutors, rehearse IELTS-style speaking with an AI examiner, and build everyday digital and cybersecurity skills in hands-on labs, all in your browser.
Which languages can I practise?
The Language Lab has AI voice tutors in twelve languages, with Irish first: Niamh speaks Connacht Irish. The others include French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese, Mandarin, Hindi, Tamil and Thai.
Is Testera free?
Yes. Practice is free every day, with no card and no ads. One free conversation a day as a guest; three when signed in. People who can afford it can become a Patron, which keeps Testera free for everyone else.
Are the tutors real people?
No. Every tutor on Testera is an AI, and is always labelled as one.
Do I need an account?
No. You can pick a tutor and press Start talking straight away. Signing in, with your email or Google, keeps your progress and gives you more conversations a day.
Can I type instead of speaking?
Yes. In the Language Lab you can type at any point in the conversation if you are not ready to speak out loud.
Is the IELTS practice the real test?
No. Testera offers IELTS-style speaking practice with practice bands for fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. It is not the official test and does not give official results.
What do the levels mean?
After a conversation you get a CEFR-style practice level from your own words. It is a practice estimate to help you see where you are, never a certificate.
What can I learn in the Digital Skills Lab?
Free pathways in everyday digital skills, cloud and IT, and cybersecurity, with hands-on labs such as Spot the phish, Password builder and Wi-Fi safe.
Can my organisation or school use Testera?
We're starting a short AI literacy programme with a small number of Irish organisations. See Testera for Teams.
Who makes Testera?
Testera is built in Dublin by Aqta Technologies Limited, an Irish company.
